Screen printing at the start was actually rather challenging for me, although we had our induction previously which was very helpful, I still did feel quite lost when I started to print. When I first got there, I was still a little uncertain with how to adjust the board correctly onto the table however, I managed to clamp it securely onto the table, which I had to place my piece of paper, and my stencil underneath the printing screen; however, before we started to print the stencil onto the paper, we had to make sure that the screen was covered entirely, and generously with paint. Once the screen was covered in paint, we used a tool called a 'squeegee', which you have to place down on the top of the screen, and make your way down the screen, pressing hard back and forth, over and over again until eventually your stencil has been printed onto the piece of paper.
I found this process very challenging in some ways, mainly due to the fact that I didn't press down hard enough with the squeegee onto the screen; this left me with many prints which weren't as bold in the paint, as I had anticipated them to be. Although, there were a few decent prints, I was still not entirely satisfied with them. However, this was my first time screen printing, and I am still very optimistic to try it again in the future!
Here are some of the screen prints that I made.
